Case Studies
Design of multi-device, multi-lingual portal with user access from several types of terminals
The Client
A European leader in media and telecommunications with interests in Internet, TV, music, cinema, mobile, and games.
Business Needs
Easier maintenance of the multi-purpose access portal.
Business Challenges
The solution required to meet the business need was a portal with three-tier architecture: content aggregation module, content management module and the portal framework of Web Logic Commerce Server for publishing.
The pan-European portal is a multi-purpose, multi-language, multi-location and multi-device access portal with the central control at the client's head office in London. The portal serves content in different sections called channels and applications. There are 12 channels and 9 applications products. Some of the content is hosted by vendors, ensuring same look and feel (such services being called click-throughs). There are over 150 different click-throughs for the web and WAP technologies. For both web & WAP, it has the same URL base.
Datamatics Solution
The Datamatics team devised the Iframe solution for pulling content in the pages generated by the portal framework. The team kept the marketing requirement of not having frames in the browsers which support Iframe tag and for others by displaying the content in a pop-up window. This solution provided the client with ease of maintaining the top, right and bottom navigation bars.
The team was involved in project Management, third-party interaction and content development. It also managed sessions between the third-party sites and the portal, and standardization of code for quality purposes.
