The client maintains content on its multi-device, multi-lingual, pan-Europen portal using the services of third-party content providers. It required a solution that could ease this process, reducing effort and costs. The challenge was finding resources who not only had a knowledge of new portal technologies but also understood the content domain. The team had stringent delivery deadlines, while the client also dealt with issues like spikes in work load demanding a quick ramp-up of capable resources.
Datamatics Solution
The Datamatics team assigned to development of the solution wrote Java applications for site features like mail, chat, search and shopping, JSP for handling request and response from web pages and WML pages to handle requests and response from for WAP. The team also worked on coding of business logic in Java Beans & Servlets, Java Script to perform client side validation and integration of the applications with the various website channels News, Sports, Games, Weather, and Music.
The portal was created using portal framework with Weblogic Personalisation/Commerce Server and several portlets were added to it as components. Portlet and WebLogic tags together took care of the content management.
