Application migration and re-engineering for a global healthcare organization
The Client
A leading provider of wireless and security solutions with over a billion dollars in yearly revenues. The company has over 4,000 employees and has a presence across the globe.
Business Needs & Challenges
The customer had used a legacy Branch Support Application for over two decades. It addressed membership, claims processing, payments, interfaces to banks and service providers. The application was business critical and over 300 users accessed the application on a daily basis. The customer wanted to migrate this business critical application from the IBM mainframe OS/390 platform to an Oracle platform.
Datamatics Solution
The existing system was developed in CA-IDEAL, COBOL, Easytrieve, SAS, CADatacom, IMS on the IBM Mainframe to a to an open UNIX platform. Based on a detailed study of the customers context the Datamatics team decided migrate the system to a UNIX Operating System on SUN using Oracle relational database. The entire migration involved migrating more than 3.2 million Lines of code, As much as 90 % of the Project effort was carried out at Datamatics offshore facilities. Conversion and testing work was almost completely done offshore while the user acceptance Testing was done onsite.
Benefits
